Hello dear friends,

I have decided to dedicate this post to Armenian cuisine, since I have got lost of requests from my friends here, and to tell the truth I was really very much happy to see such interest towards the cuisine of my country, since it is a part of our history and culture And I would like to you to understand and feel my country, to have an image what country I come from (though many of you have probably heard and know lots of things about Armenia, still others may have never heard about it or have come across name Armenia two or three times maximum, nevertheless, I think that Armenian cuisine will be something new both for those who already has some idea of my country and those who don't even know about its existence

I tried to select some unique and extraordinary dishes, which may seem to you strange but at the same time worth trying I have decided to write several blog posts about Armenian cuisine, and in this particular blog post I want to tell you about Armenian meat dishes and Armenian bread types, So, lets start:

1. Khorovats or as it also called - "barbeque": which is a meat of mainly lamb or beef, as well as chicken, grilled on charcoal grill. Khorovats is the most popular Armenian dish.and it is truly the “decoration” of any table, be it a birthday, wedding or something else. I have to confess that it is my favourite dish, especially its smell together with lavash - national armenian bread type (flat bread).




In the second picture you can see lavash (flat armenian bread ) , very common especially among the girls, since they say it does not make them fat as the ordinary bread

Let's move forward

Next are:

Basturma: a highly seasoned air dried raw beef similar to pastrami, and

Sujukh: a spicy beef sausage called sujukh

Another favourite Armenian dish made of meat is Dolma. Dolma is a minced meat with rice and spices rolled in cabbage leaves or in the leaves of grapes.




Now let us move to the traditional bread types of Armenian cuisine

They are as follows:

- Just as I have mentioned LAVASH - which is purely one of the most significant symbols of Armenian cuisine



In the next picture you can see the way it is made


The dough of lavash is rolled out flat and then slapped on the hot wall of underground clay oven called "tonir".

Next type is Matnakash, which is a soft and puffy leavened bread made of wheat flour and shaped into oval or round loaves.

Next comes another unique and typical Armenian bread type called Jingyalov hats: which is a traditional bread in Artsakh (Nagorno Karabagh). It is again like lavash but has a filling inside made of different local herbs


To conclude this post was a tiny introduction to the Armenian cuisine and its traditional and specific dishes. So, I am impatiently waiting for your comments on whether it was interesting for you or not and whether you would like to try some of the above mentioned dishes or not
