When I first saw the topic of this challenge I must admit I was a little perplexed. My favourite currency? High currency value is a GOOD thing, it means that nation can buy goods & services from other nations CHEAPLY. It's a good thing to be able to get things cheap, right?
Unfortunately, economics has mostly been corrupted, especially during the second half of the 20th century, where through "free" government-controlled education people are told that inflation & a weak currency is a good thing; of course, to give governments the excuse to keep issuing more money, & it's free money for them but people are unwittingly ROBBED of their purchasing-power & then they are told that it's good for them :(

On the one hand it certainly is great but Australia relies on it's exports. The government has a lot invested in natural resources, so the less we get from our exports, the more tax we'll inevitably have to pay (and we're already one of the worst nations in that respect). Or else our standard of living will go down...which, having been recently voted the happiest nation I'm sure we're not too keen to see happen. Australia's been lucky so far, we've tethered on the edge of recession but have avoided it so far by lowering interest rates instead of printing money. :)

However, I'm certainly not impressed with the banks for not passing on the rate cards on their credit card offerings !

Well, inflation aka devaluation of currency IS a tax too. Whether people pay higher taxes or they are able to buy less stuff with money in their pockets, it's the same thing; their living-standard is lowered compared to what it would otherwise be!

And that brings me to an issue I've raised with another participant here. If we believe that everyone should have equal rights then how is it that people in the governments can ROB others by threatening imprisonment (death, if needed)? I mean you can't go out there & threaten others to give you money but people in government can. That's not equality

Lowering of interest does often lead to issuance of more money. How can you lower the price of anything without increasing its supply? (interest is the price of borrowing money) After all, price of anything is determined by its demand & supply. When there's a higher production of potatoes or tomatoes or whatever, prices of that thing fall, when there's less production, prices rise; same with money. It's just that some other governments have been declaring beforehand as to how much money they are going to create while Aussie (& many other governments) issue money on an "as required" basis.

When you live in a great country like Australia, winter is something that happens some time between going to the office and heading out for a beverage at the end of the day. I'm not one for being ourdoors, I used to be but now I just avoid heat, humidity & pollution. So I rely on some weight-training & calisthenics, 3 days a week, about 1.5 hours or so; that coupled with a diet consisting mostly of fruits, cereals, beans & dairy does the job for me :)

well as long as you still get a chance to get outdoors in general- vitamin D can only be absorbed through the sun shinning directly on your skin! ...having said that I have a problem with getting enough fresh air myself! I work full-time and study-full time, needless to say in my free time all I want to do is collapse on the couch! :)

Well, I use Vitamin D supplements & get some from milk & other foods that have Vitamin D added to them :)
