France GDP expanded 0.4 percent quarter-on-quarter in the December quarter of 2016, compared to a 0.2 percent growth in the three months to September. It was the second straight quarter of growth and the strongest since the March quarter, driven by a faster increase in household consumption, government spending and investment while net external demand contributed slightly to the GDP.

Investors are continuing  to focus on political developments in France ahead of the highly-anticipated presidential election scheduled next month.Concerns over the French presidential election have slightly eased after centrist Emmanuel Macron appeared to come out on top in a televised debate against his main rival, far-right anti-EU leader Marine Le Pen.
Meanwhile, the Financial Times reported that center-right candidate Francois Fillon is now facing claims he allegedly sought to profit financially from ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

There are very important events this week which will highly impact the valuations of CAC 40. The much anticipated Federal Reserve Rate Decision is on Wednesday February 1st 2016 which is also our contest's final day. The Federal Reserve is not expected to take action on interest rates at the conclusion of its two-day policy meeting. The Fed indicated last month that at least three rate increases were in the offing for 2017. However, traders remained unconvinced. Instead, markets are pricing in just two rate hikes during the course of this year, according to CME group's FedWatch Tool.
