Russian consumers opt for foreign brands
The majority of the Russians still cannot afford an iPhone, though cherish a dream to buy a prestige gadget one day. Samsung Electronics was chosen as the most-loved brand in Russia for the fifth year in a row. Friendly prices make Russian consumers opt for devices from South Korean tech giant. In the survey by Russia-based Online Market Intelligence (OMI), 20.1% or over 1 million people voted for Samsung Electronics as their favorite brand. Japanese electronics company Sony followed with 9.6%. The US hi-tech behemoth Apple came next with 9.5%. The top-5 favorite brands also include German sportswear producer Adidas with 8.5%. It beat its American rival Nike supported by 8% of pollees. Interestingly, neither car brand Lada nor domestic clothing companies have won favor with Russian consumers. Samsung has been at the forefront of Russia’s electronics consumer sector for several years. In the smartphone segment, Samsung recorded a preference of 39%. Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics is not able to beat Apple in terms of popularity, but it has gained a foothold in terms of global smartphone sales. Research agency Gartner reported that South Korean giant sold about 83.6 million items in Q3 compared to 72.9 million gadgets in the same period a year ago. Its competitor Apple sold 46 million iPhones thus taking the second rank. Apple sold 38.2 million iPhones in the reporting period last year. ( this is copy-paste publishing from www.mt5)
