Sky fascinates me like nothing else. I have huge interest in cosmology though I am not a trained scientist. This weekend while going through series about our universe I came across this event know as Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). This are actually very short-lived bursts of gamma-ray light, which typically last just anywhere from a few milliseconds to several minutes.
The discovery of GRBs was quite accidental. They were discovered in the late 1960s by U.S. military satellites which were on the lookout for Soviet nuclear testing in violation of the atmospheric nuclear test ban treaty. Since then scientist have continued to study this highly energetic events which can rip through the star systems in the immediate vicinity.
The GBR is most likely considered the death of star which also leads to the formation of the black holes. However, since nothing can escape black holes not even light, our ability to study the aftermath of Gamma ray burst have been limited.
