THE REVEALING

It was decided immediately after posting the first day's task yesterday that the next post will be on being 'YES"-Master the whole day. There were two reasons for selecting this task for Wednesday. The first one is that the Dukasummer was announced as a surprise contest and caught me unawares, really. I came to my room after a busy day, that too late in the afternoon, finished my lunch and before taking a nap, just opened my laptop and as soon as I went to the Dukascopy page, the announcement flashed on he screen and I thought it was another sure fun way to the summer.

THE SCHEME AND STRATEGY

I eagerly went through all the details and joined and selected the tasks which were possible ones for a person living in a small island. Being in the middle of a hectic week immediately after the Eid holidays, I needed a few easy ones to pull me up to the weekend. Hence I selected this one for the second task. First thought was to begin the day by making an announcement in each class I go, that they should consider before asking me anything since I will be responding to all their queries only in the positive. The plan was to avoid my Leading teachers as much as possible for the day to eliminate any kind of embarrassment it may cause.

But on a second thought I suddenly realized that if I announce my decision of saying only 'yes' for everything for the day, then some naughty students, (there are a few in my classes, for sure) will definitely come out with a plan to put me in trouble. So It was decided in advance that it will be as usual as a normal day but within me I have to be very careful before I respond to anyone. The idea is to say 'yes' to all but with a clause if the other person's request or question was in any way tricky or troublesome if I responded with a 'yes'.

THE EXECUTION

It was reasonably easy and I managed without much of a problem, except at two occasions. The first one was with one of my colleagues and I succeeded in answering 'yes' even though the intended response should have been the opposite, and hesitated a bit and stammered a while before I could add a somewhat reasonable clause.

The second instance involved a student during my class in Grade 8A. It was Nazavan NafIu who asked me whether his commerce teacher was present and he wanted to know if he could have a period free. Commerce teacher Riyaz Kattil has been ill and was on leave since last Sunday. I knew this but I was forced to answer 'yes.........' And unfortunately for me, I could not find any suitable clause and any excuse after such an awkward pause would have been disturbing and confusing for the students.

So I thought of letting the cat out of the bag to preserve my dignity in front of my class. It was towards the end of the session and more importantly it was after the break, because it is during the break (recess) that most of the naughty ideas are plotted which will be executed after the break classes, sometimes not just in the respective class but also in other classes too.So I was not in for any impending trouble for the day.

THE CONCLUSION

Since I had a lot of work to be done for the day, I decided to remain behind the doors for the day and I did not meet anyone till now and it is already very late into the evening, and I hope not much of a maneuvering will be needed in this regard.

WISH YOU ALL A CHALLENGING DUKASUMMER!
