Reading through other participant's answers I have only one serious question to some of the ladies - are you imagining yourself at this event as a social person or a woman looking for rich businessman to marry you?
As I am definitely not, I'll describe how I usually act at business, actually, at any event which I found so far very successful.
I never pretend to be someone else, so I'm being myself - very honest, witty, curious and full of charisma. There are several good reasons for doing that:
a) It's not worth to pretend you are smarter than you really are - no one from smart people is going to believe and you'll look even more stupid.
b) It is not worth to pretend you are more beautiful than you actually are - beauty always comes from the inside and nice dress/shoes or lipstick will never do it for you, sorry! Just don't dress like me on the picture below!
c) if you are trying to pretend anything but yourself you will always fail because it never looks naturally and people feel it very well.
The more free I feel myself the better connections I get, it's very easy. Although I'm introvert by my nature, I am very sociable and my great work experience helped me a lot.
And I guess the last thing that needs to be on high level is your spoken English language. It's hard to make any connections at the international events without good English vocabulary. You can be very smart and have a lot things to say but if you don't know the language - you can really just stand and "shine like a diamond", alone and quietly
So if you want to succeed in such events it won't happen immediately - you have to be the person you and everyone wants to be and this takes time and hard work to discover and develop in yourself. Cheers!
