Most people think that happiness is in possessing everything they need.

Everybody has basic needs and people live and work to satisfy those needs such as food, shelter, clothes, etc. When those basic needs are satisfied, new and new needs arise and people think they should have more money to satisfy those needs. They make a goal to earn more to possess all those things they need.

It is important to understand that the essential things people really need are not as much as they might think. All the rest is no more a need but a desire and the problem is that there is no limit to human desires.

We may have everything we actually need but may feel that it’s not enough. We can have everything but still be unhappy. Why? Do we really need to possess EVERYTHING to be happy? Can’t someone be happy with minimal stuff? Do we really need that extra thing or is it just a whim? Maybe we can be happy without it?

Everything in the world moves forward quickly so there will always be something new and better and there may be so much desire to possess it. Well, possessing a new thing may make us happy but only for a short while and the temporary happiness that we feel from getting what we wanted isn’t actually in getting it but in feeling satisfied and stopping for a period of time wanting something.

So do you still think that possessing more and more new stuff can make you happy?
