Books Versus Movies
Watching horror movies has been never in my to-do list of things. I have tried to watch one or two of them as a young student, but never watched one fully. Not just due to the horror aspect but I could not engage myself to watch something which I thought was not helping me in any way. On the other hand, at the beginning of my journey of reading, I was eager to read horror stories and detective novels. Later I completely avoided these genre from my reading.
The Dukasummer Tasks
As I was going through the tasks list of Dukasummer contest, this one arouse my curiosity. Why should not I take up this opportunity to try watching some horror movies and have a different weekend? So, I asked a few of my colleagues to suggest some names of horror movies. They had some movies with them and we had a discussion in order to select three from the movies they had. prior to this I had searched the internet to gather some information about such movies.
A Flash Drive Full Of Horror!
Last Friday, it was the second weekend after the start of the Dukasummer Contest and I decided to watch at least one of them after my routine with trading practice and now, the publishing of the daily report. To keep the continuity of watching I thought of doing it the next morning before going to the school for the weekly lesson preparation tasks. But, before watching , let us have a look at the movies that I have with me.
1. Don't Look Now
The unforgettable image of a little girl in a red coat, entwined with the explicit sex scene and the jump-cuts, flashbacks and other stylistic devices in disturbing ways- together created some strange viewing experience and the hazy look of the screen presented an elusive mystery to the nearly 2.30 hrs. long experience. However, I decided to spend a few more hours to this task even though it seemed a little too longer.
2. The Shining (1980)
It just gives an experience of a lingering terror and not the horror that we anticipate and it has got its own aesthetic moments to be cherished- normally not associated with horror movies. My colleagues really know me when it comes to watching movies!
3. Halloween (1978)
This one fits the bill perfectly. But I never thought music can be 'used' to generate terror! incredible! ominous silence has been transcended into ominous piano music!
I have to admit that I fast forwarded a few scenes due to weariness and an irritation I felt in my eyes may be because of lack of sleep and too much gazing at the screen. Added to this was the thought of the whole lot of things to be done before the Sunday morning!
